If I had say, several large PDF documents I needed hosting on the interwebs, where could I put them up so people could see/download them?

Ideally, I would use my own webspace, but there is not enough room and I don't think Virgin will extend my allowance (this has been a problem for some time and may force me to pay for webspace eventually).

I'm finally home from hospital (via lazing about convalescing at my parents)! Apart from a visit to collect the post and blow up the computer, that is.

Computer death was caused by the motherboard yet again, but now I have quad-core mega-powers! I am consciously optimistic that the hideous lagging problem that beset my dual-core board are over. Maybe.

In other news, I have just cooked myself the most delicious steak I think I have ever tasted. Yum.

I've been having connection problems today, especially with the website. Grr. I think [livejournal.com profile] hesadevil has overloaded NTL.

Anyway, I've been doing stuff.

Yesterday I went to the National Space Centre in Leicester, a trip out for a friends birthday.

It was interesting, but lacked something. I can't put my finger on what.

Got to see rockets and spacesuits and a film about Mars though, and that has to be better than working, hasn't it?

You know that cheerful optimism of yesterday? Well, its gone.

We tried to complete Frank, connecting the sound so I could watch Angel. Then XP goes belly up, fixed that, now we've lost access to the USB ports.

So no net access and I'm back at my Dad's for my fix (and hopeful repair). I just want things to work like they used to, is that too much to ask?

Yep. Here I am on Frank, my slick new machine cobbled together from parts of about 3 other machines.

Precious was committed to the dump ground today in a very touching ceremony.

I'll never forget him ::sniff::

Just grabbed some time online at my mate's house.

Looks like I'll be back a little sooner than previously thought. We've decided not to buy the new computer all built, we've just bought the bits and we're going to build it ourselves. They'll come in tomorrow. That means I should be up and running by the weekend. Yay!

All to this the fact that the ancient laptop is go... Means I should be able to post chapter 1 of my WIP next week.

Ta! Ta!

Thank you for all your kind comments. They'll help pull me through I'm sure.

Right. To update the story:

Took the computer to PC World and they took one look and wanted nothing to do with it - they didn't have the parts. They suggested another shop that wasn't open until today. Turns out they don't have the parts either. So I'm now computerless and having to update from my parents house.

My Dad convinced me to buy a new PC, that was cheaper and of a highter spec anyway. We can always salvage the parts it doesn't have from the old machine. Luckily, we think the hard disc is OK and I have a floppy with my WIP's on so they're safe, at least. BUT they didn't have the machine in stock and it will be 7-10 days!

7 to 10 days?!!!

How can I cope that long? I won't be able to download Angel! Looks like I'll have to grab my access as and when I can.

Dad also found me an old laptop that I could at least type on (it had Windows 3.1 on!). we upgraded it to Windows 95 and now the trackball doesn't work (nor does a mouse). So that could be a loss.

Combine all this with a terminally ill car and the lights in my sitting room that have spontaneously exploded in a bright blue flash (we're using candles now) and you can see my weekend was super.

I'm fed up.

RIP

Obituary

My HP Pavilion 730.uk, affectionately known as "my precious" PC died yesterday, suddenly and tragically. It was only 20 months old.

Bought to replace my aging and out-of-date Compaq, My Precious and I had many wonderful hours together, creating daft pictures and fic, downloading Buffy eps and many viruses. I'll ever forget my early memories of getting the "I Love You" virus.

A post-mortem discovered that it'd died of a massive power failure that took out it's motherboard and processor. It's comforting to know that it would barely have felt it. Due to the nature of it's parts, the failure was inoperable and was dead on Arrival at my Dad's, who tried frantically, but vainly to save it.

It'll be sorely missed

Please post any condolences in the comments below.

"My HP Computer
She knew nothing else would suit her,
when she saw it in the shop.
Our many hours together,
sent Bob to the end of his tether
But my precious you were top"
