I have to confess I'm finding this whole birthday thing a bit meh these days.

Perhaps it's because nothing really happens on them anymore not because I am getting so old; I had presents last Sunday (a toaster! a clock! Ah adulthood) and I am going out to dinner tomorrow. And yes, I visited my friend tonight and she treated me to a takeaway, but that's our usual Saturday night transplanted to a Friday. I even went to the shop to buy a cake for afternoon off indulgence, but came out with some Bakewell Tarts and a packet of Wotsits.

Still, life could be a lot worse. Mustn'y grumble.

Some random things:

  • I have given in and accepted I need glasses. More worrying was that I needed them for distance and reading. Pooh. But the plus side is that maybe I can read books again!

  • I nearly went on holiday. Not in a Withnail and I way thogh.

  • I got rid of most of my debt! No more credit card albatross.

  • Best news of the day: new album by Goat due in the autumn. Squee! Goat where the pychedelic sound of my 2013 summer.

As I actually managed to write down what happened yesterday, I suppose I had better type it up!

A suprisingly long post by my standards follows within )
I think that was more or less it.

[livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat gave me 22

Then: Age 22 (1995)

Lived: At home in Watford with my parents. I lived at home throughout my university life, which on one hand was probably a mistake, as I missed out on a lot (I had one drink the Student Union in three years), but on the other it meant I came out with no debt.

Drove: A an orangey red VW Polo which had been through a lot - me driving it into the central reservation of the M25, a new engine, numerous breakdowns, adventures in North London etc.

Relationship: None. My love life was a wide desolate wasteland, though I did meet my ex towards the end of this year (though he made me wait months).

Fear: Not many. Surgery mainly. Not getting a decent job. Telephones.

Work: I graduated university, but I was still stacking shelves in the supermarket part-time, so I really counted myself as unemployed. This was pretty much the start of my 18 month job search which resulted in severely reducing my expectations to get a job as an office junior. That pretty much set my course in life.

Wanted to be: A homeowner, someone with a good job in London (though I never did know quite what I wanted to actually do - and I still don't), a girlfriend.

Now: 40

Living: My own flat in Hemel Hempstead.

Drive: Black VW Bora. Interesting, these years cover both times I've had VWs. There have been a lot of other non-VWs in my life.

Relationship: None. Can't be bothered wasting time looking.

Fear: Medical problems mostly. Pain. Bills. Losing my cat again.

Work: As a PA in construction Health & Safety. My exact job title is a bit of a mirage and changes with who I'm speaking to. I make lots of pie charts and make documents look pretty.

Want: More money. A bigger flat. To be able to paint. To finish my WIP.

I actually managed to get out of the office today to go up to London with a small group for a course.

I can't say I know much more now about DSE assessment than I knew before, but the course was a complete hoot! Not bad for a free course (we speculated that it might be a front for slavers - although they would have been sorely disappointed by a bunch of middle-aged women and one token bloke).

The only problem is now I have to assess 200 workstations...

::Yawn::

Wow. Tonight's a boring night on LJ. You might me make resort to doing the cleaning. Or, you know, writing or something.

Round up

Oops.

I didn’t mean to let the cobwebs build up and not post for so long. It’s not like I haven’t been around or made posts elsewhere, but I think I sometimes forget that [livejournal.com profile] sb_fag_ends is not my home journal because that’s where the action is (or definitely has been of late).

Not that life has been terribly exciting, there's not a lot I can do with my bad knee (have I mentioned that here before?). Halloween was busy with parties, but not a lot else has happened.

However, The Raven Banner, Black Widow and Kiss Chase(!) were nominated for things at the SunnyD Awards, so thank you whomever it was that did that, it's been an eternity since I was nominated for anything! ETA: Actually, you can vote there now.

What else was there? Um. A bit of fic, a bit of Barbie nonsense. I'll leave those for another post, else it'll be another month before I post again!

Ooh, how about Christmas? Who wants a handmade Christmas card, handmade by me? Comments are screened if you want to leave an address.

I'm finally home from hospital (via lazing about convalescing at my parents)! Apart from a visit to collect the post and blow up the computer, that is.

Computer death was caused by the motherboard yet again, but now I have quad-core mega-powers! I am consciously optimistic that the hideous lagging problem that beset my dual-core board are over. Maybe.

In other news, I have just cooked myself the most delicious steak I think I have ever tasted. Yum.

So I survived my ovarian cyst operation and it seems to have gone very well. So much better than last time I had to have it done.

It’s hard to believe only three days ago I was lying in a pool of my own blood and ick (Twice. Note to self: don’t fall asleep lying on your wounds) and now I feel more or less completely fine! Hurrah for keyhole surgery and for excellent timing that means that although I’ve been signed off work for two weeks, I can’t go back until the 10th of January anyway! Plus no need to go out into all that pretty white, but annoying stuff that currently dumping itself down outside.

I'm going to finally finish watching Lost, encourage my new found obsession with The Vampire Diaries and do creative things. Yay!

::Hugs Internet very hard::

I'm back! Okay, it was only for a day that my Internet went down, but it was very traumatic. I might be scarred for life. Don't leave me again WWW!

Thank you Virgin Media for restoring me to the information superhighway. Oh, and for fixing the TV as well. Hurrah!

Hello world

I have nothing much to report. I am busy preparing for my operation which is very soon and I've just watched the whole of The Vampire Diaries, which I was supposed to have been saving for my lay off.

Oops. It'll just be Lost then.

That's it.

Today. Not much happened. Although there was anxious half hour when the TV and broadband(!!) both went out.

Ah. Somebody remind me never to complete re-design my website again. nearly 200 pages is just too much to re-do! Ouchy fingers and still a load to go!

Oh well watch Tegan listening to the new 80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster album instead. Everyone is a critic it seems.
